Meet Dr Hendri Eksteen

A specialist psychiatrist with experience across both public and private healthcare sectors in South Africa and Canada.
Approach to care
Dr Hendri Eksteen provides adult psychiatric care in the Cape Winelands. His work spans a broad range of mental-health conditions, with special interests in adult ADHD, substance-use disorders and interventional psychiatry, including TMS.
He works collaboratively, aiming to build a trusting therapeutic relationship in which treatment decisions are made jointly after thoughtful discussion.
Training and experience
Dr Eksteen completed his medical degree at the University of the Free State and specialist psychiatry training at the University of Pretoria. He later worked in Victoria, British Columbia, including psychiatric emergency services, acute-care leadership and university teaching, before returning to South Africa.
Beyond the consulting room
ASCEND grew from a question that complements his clinical work: beyond treating mental illness, how can people strengthen the everyday foundations that support brain health, resilience and wellbeing?
Outside work, he values time with his wife and children, faith, the outdoors, mountain biking, travel and the ongoing challenge of triathlon.
